A-Level assessment

My Life

The thrum of  a guitar makes me fly
Try to return its sound
But it is a thing that I couldn't lie
Ultimately I start to dance;
I act normally
My appearance comes naturally
Spending my life gradually
And avoid from brutality
which is away me from humanity;
People said I'm having insanity
Who always being gloomy
But actually I'm just thinking of heaven, that has a beautiful valley

Life gives you opportunity and life wants you to take it not to waste it
Doesn't matter how difficult it is ,so just taste it

Liar

Your mouth is a fire to people
They're turning to ashes when you talk
Your appearance is diabolical
Perhaps you are a demon ancestry;
You act abnormal
You speak arbitrarily
You don't even know the truth
but you just say it;
Try to be an innocent serf
Never consider deeply on what you've done
You just let others fell down
and you just give an evil smile

I know who you are ,you are the worst creature in this world
there's only one word in my mind "LIAR"

Analysis of Via's work

In this poem , the size of the texts are totally different .The writer starts from largest to the smallest. It shows the mourn expression of the writer. In this poem ,the writer uses an abstract line. The shape of the text are totally can not be seen as a real shape, because in this poem, there are so many types of phases
The writer also crosses the "WRONG" word , to convince the reader that it has a wrong meaning.
The word "fall" it is set from up to down, to give an effect the real definition of fall. In the fourth line, the writer put many spaces, because from the word "away" .

Sometimes
Sometimes you need to d i s t a n c e
your self to see things clearly
Sometimes a little rebellion
is a good thing
Sometimes you have to forget
what's g  o  n  e

Analysis of Nadia's work

In the second line of the first poem , the writer put a big space of the word "distance". It is separated to describe what distance is, which is "faraway". In the second line ,there is a word "Clearly" ,the writer bold the text and make the size bigger, to show a convincing effect, so the reader can easily read it. Next is the word "little rebellion" ,it designed as a tiny font. And also the writer crosses the word "forget" , it means the writer wants to shows  a firm decision effect. Some of the lines are longer and some are shorter..And as the reader can see from the last text, the extra spaces are given in that part ,by taking the word " gone".

Poem Analysis

Does It Matter?

Does it matter?-losing your legs?
For people will always be kind,
And you need not show that you mind
When others come in after hunting
To gobble their muffins and eggs.
Does it matter?-losing you sight?
There’s such splendid work for the blind;
And people will always be kind,
As you sit on the terrace remembering
And turning your face to the light.
Do they matter-those dreams in the pit?
You can drink and forget and be glad,
And people won't say that you’re mad;
For they know that you've fought for your country,
And no one will worry a bit.

Forever Friend

You are my worst friend
You are my best friend
You are my naughty friend
You are my innocent friend

You are my song friend
You are my wrong friend
You are my right friend
You are my bright friend

I love to see you
I wish to see you soon
For me you are no less than a boon

You are my beautiful friend
You are my dutiful friend
You are my just friend
You are my first friend

Nobody is better than you
To love you is what I always do
you are a friend
Whose friendship has no end.

You are my friend-
forever best friend..........
By : Nitya More
Analysis : This poem tells the reader about friendship. The writer uses a  figure of speech which is repetition by taking the word " you are my" and "friend". The writer shows her feeling to her best friend by describing her friend in their daily lives.
Next is "Nobody is better than you" the writer uses ironic ,the writer uses sarcastic tone ,and it shows that her friend is perfect and no one can replace her. And at the end of the poem, the writer tells to the reader that the writer's friend is her best friend and will always be best  friend.

DISCURSIVE WRITING

Chips are absolutely containing MSG ,can you imagine if it comes to our body? Consuming chips similarly  give an opportunity to the viruses of cancer to get in. Another point is ,consuming to much MSG can cause obesity. It means your weight will be increasing by eating one pack of chips? What about you bought ten packs of chips?
As much you consume MSG , as much impacts that you can get.
Another point is, life would be  much better if you don’t consume a food that kills you. Keeping away from chips is a good reason to be healthy.

On the other hand, although there are many good points of consuming chips. First it is an alternative for middle-low people who could not buy main foods for example rice.  At least chips can hold your hunger and also chips is instant foods, so people do not need to cook it or serve it. That’s why people prefer skip their breakfasts and so on, they prefer to eat chips because it is simple.

Eating chips can reduce people’s boredom, especially when people at home while watching television.

IMAGINATIVE WRITING

I have one cute girl in my class. She is nice, kind and annoying. She is Nadia or you can call her Nadi . She has a beautiful smile with rosy cheeks and her narrow eyes.
But on the other side ,she will leave me alone *well actually I still have Dimas , an innocent boy I've ever known, he has narrow eyes, so actually both of them have narrow eyes except mine. I still need Nadia ,everyone needs her. So it is kind of silly thing if my beautiful classmate replaced by him .

*I believe Nadia would smile to herself when she read this

Transport in multicellular plants

WHY PLANTS & ANIMALS NEED A TRANSPORT SYSTEM ????
------> to carry these items and other necessities throughout the body to cells that would not be able to get it from the air. In plants the transport systems are xylem and phloem, and in animals it is the circulatory system.

Some of the particular requirements of plant cells are as follows :

- Carbon dioxide : Photosynthetic plant cells require a supply of CO2 during daylight
- Oxygen             : All plant cells require a supply of oxygen for respiration
- Organic nutrients : Many plant cells need to be supplied with organic nutrients
- Inorganic ions& water : These are taken up from the soil by roots & are transported to all regions of the plant.

(transport in plants )
The transport of water
-The energy of the Sun causes water to evaporate from the leaves called TRANSPIRATION
THE STRUCTURE OF XYLEM & PHLOEM

Difference and Comparison
Phloem and xylem are complex tissues that perform transportation of food and water in a plant. They are the vascular tissues of the plant and together form vascular bundles. They work together as a unit to bring about effectivetransportation of food, nutrients, minerals and water.

            PHLOEM
           XYLEM
Transportation of food and nutrients such as sugar and amino acids from leaves to storage organs and growing parts of plant
Water and mineral transport from roots to aerial parts of the plant.
Nature of tissue : Living tissue with little cytoplasm but no nucleus/tonoplast.
NOT : Dead tissue at maturity so it is hollow with no cell contents
Location in vascular bundle : Phloem occur on outer side of the vascular bundle.
xylem occupy the center of the vascular bundle.
Shape : Phloem is not star shaped.
Xylem is star shaped.

THE ROLES OF NITRATE & MAGNESIUM IONS IN PLANTS

- Nitrates provide the nitrogen plants need to construct such vital molecules as amino acids and nucleic acids (DNA and RNA). Also some of the vitamins. Lack of nitrates means stunted growth, low yields, yellow leaves.

- Magnesium is the ion that's vital to chlorophyl function and photosynthesis. Without it leaves turn yellowish and/or red orange in colour, shrivel and die.

HOW TRANSLOCATION OF ORGANIC MATERIALS OCCURS IN PLANTS

Translocation involves the transport of organic materials produced through photosynthesis, such as sucrose, from the leaves to other parts of the plants where they are utilized. It occurs in the phloem sieve tube between the source end(near the leaves); where sucrose is loaded due to the process of photosynthesis by the palisade and spongy mesophyll cells to the sink end(near the end where sucrose is unloaded for respiration and storage purposes).

Commentary

- This is a commentary of Nadia's post and it is originally composed by Via -
Nadia's blog

The writer’s purpose is to give information about her own life and to create sympathy. . In the first paragraph ,the writer puts “injustice, racisms, criminals, “.Actually injustice and racisms are abstract nouns, so the writer supposed to put crime than criminals. And at the second line of the first paragraph the writer should not put comma before the word “ and”.

The writer tries to attract the reader by sarcastic sentence the first paragraph. The reader is forced to imagine what it must be like to live in fear of one’s life in cramped conditions.

In the second paragraph , there is an error in the first sentence where the writer only a tobebefore the word become. The tobe is supposed to be eliminated. As in the first sentence,  the writer should use past tenses because it tells about what had happened.

At the same time, the clause shows the writer’s story was tense. The article shows that she never was in a good condition. The writer puts lots of conflicts there, which can make the reader become attracted and feared.

In the third paragraph ,the writer starts to tell her story from the first time she went to school ,by taking the word “school was like a prison “ shows that her day was filled with war,.

Next, in the fourth paragraph ,the writer uses the words “Latino’s, Chinese, Ghettos, and a white kid” signifies that the writer’s school was acist. The writer puts oxymoron word which is “It’s quite painful.

The fifth paragraph the writer uses a figure of speech which is repetition, that can be found in a word “Shouted at each other, mocked at each other” .The word “each other is repeated. It is used twice.

In the seventh paragraph, the writer uses a sentence  “my Chinese friend died “ the writer uses sarcastic tone. The writer actually should put a euphemism to make it more smoothie.

In the last paragraph ,the writer uses capital letters,it is seen from the word “SHE COULD TEACH US UNTIL WE FINISHED OUR JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL.  the purpose is to give an anger effect .

At the end the writer shows that the teacher’s dream which is  “make her students better” is coming true. And the writer uses a pleasant tone.

Erin Gruwell : The Woman Who Brought Freedom

An American teacher was born August 15 1969 in California. She inspired lots of people and  was known for her unique teaching method.  Teaching in a public school which consist of American, Chinese and American-African races. Then she made those different races became like a family. How incredible she was.

She began teaching her students in 1994 at Woodrow Wilson High school  in Long Beach, California.
First day of going to school seemed like the worst day that she had ever felt.  No students were listening to her, they were just busy with their people and then went fighting with each people and Gruwell couldn’t stop them. The second day was the same, no changes but she kept trying and learnt to be more patient to face her students.

On the next day, Tito ,one of her students was drawing an African American’s  face with extremely large lips. Gruwell told her students that there was a type of caricature that the Nazis had used during the Holocaust. When only one of the students knew what the Holocaust was, Gruwell changed the theme of her curriculum to tolerance. Holocaust is a murder that was claimed to be done by the Naz to wiped-out Jews around Europe, so only a few Jews who were saved in the Holocaust time.

Gradually, the condition changed and it was an incredible time for Gruwell. She could teach them and made them become educated people. Everyday, her students were reading books that she had bought until all of them were attracted to read and read it again ,especially  the Anne Frank’s book.

In the fall of 1995, Gruwell  gave each of her students a bag full of new books and asked them to make ‘Toast for Change. After that, she saw a turn around in them . The students went on to surprise everyone. A sad news came to Gruwell that she was divorced by her husband, Scott.  It was because she spent almost a whole day with her students and  Scott thought that she couldn’t take care of him.

Gruwell bought new books from her own pocket and invited guest speaker who could inspire her students. This guest was special to compare with others. This guest was related to Anne Frank’s book which was their favourite book. She was the women who helped  Anne Frank .

Gruwell returned to Wilson High as a full-time teacher. She aksed her students to make journals of their lives. She also had the students to read the books written by and about other teenagers in times of war. Then she asked them to make a book that consist of their stories with the title The Freedom Writers.

Writing journals became a solace for many of the students, and because the journals were shared anonymously, teenagers who once refused to speak to someone of a different race became like a family. At the end all Freedom Writers graduated from high school and many of Gruwell’s students went to attend college.

My diary entry..........

Friday January 10 , 2014

Dear diary, today I feel so lonely because my dear classmate is not coming to school. I really miss her so much, she's the one who always makes my whole day amazing. I mean sometimes hahaha just kidding.

She's amazing, first she's pious and have a lot of knowledge about Islam ,she spent her day by giving advices to people. I know this year will be the last year for me and her. I don't know what will happen to me when she is gone, maybe go to  Japan and meet her or maybe just stay here with boredom. Even we are separated ,we will still fight to face and pass Cambridge Examination together.

I have lots of experiences with her and it is hard for us to stop it now. But, however we have to support each other, no matter how far she goes , I want the whole world to know that we are together.
I hope one day there will be a new student in my class and will sit beside me, I wish it is girl, if it is boy...( no comment)

Assalamualaikum warrahmatullahi wabarokatu.
Dear  Xavic

My dear grandchild, how are you? I hope you are fine and under the protection of Allah. I want to tell you something important that can affect and bring you into failure.

There are plenty of high school students influenced  other students to follow their bad behaviors. After school they hang around to catch one student and force them to drink  alcohol and the other drugs until they are addicted.

With this letter I do not want my beloved grandchild getting influenced and I just want to remind you to be more careful.

Lots of love
Grandma

Cell membranes and Transport

Phospholipids
A substance whose molecules are made up of a glycerol molecule , two fatty acids and a phosphate group; a bilayer of phospholipids forms the basic structure of all cell membranes. Interestingly, when a phospholipid is placed in water, it spontaneously folds upon itself to create a double layer or bilayer.

Here are some examples of Phosholipids in water
a. Spread as a singgle layer of molecules( a monolayer) on the surface of water
b. Forming micelles surrounded by water
c. Forming bilayers
d. Bilayers forming membrane-bound compartments

Structure Of Membrane
Membranes have many different functions with a typical cell, such as keeping unwanted viruses out, buht probably the most valuable is the partitioning of the cell into the functional and segregated compartments.

This is the diagram of the fluid mosaic model of membrane structure.

The Roles of the domponents of cell membranes

1. Phospholipids : This is the basic structure of membrane .They act as barrier to most water-soluble molecules such as sugars, amino acids & proteins cannot leak out of the cell, and unwanted water soluble molecules cannot enter the cell.

2.  Cholesterol : Is a relatively small molecule ,the function is they fit neatly between the phospholipid molecules with their heads at the membrane surface.

3. Glycolipids, glycoproteins and proteins : They form hydrogen bonds with the water molecules and help to stabilise the membrane structure.

Transport across the cell surface membrane
There are 5 basic mechanisms by which this exchange is achieved : Diffusion, Facilitated diffusion, Osmosis , Active transport and bulk transport.

A. Diffusion : can be defined as the net movement, as a result of  random motion of its molecules or ions, of a substance from a region from its higher concentration to a region of its lower concentration.

A substance diffuses across a membrane depends on a factors , such as :
1.The 'steepness' of the concentration gradient.
2. Temperature
3. The surface area
4. The nature of the molecules or ions

B. Facilitated Diffusion : It can only cross the membrane with the help of certain protein molecules.Facilitate means to make easy or make possible and this is what the proteins do.

C. Osmosis : is the best regarded as special type of diffusion involving water molecules only.

D. Active transport :as the energy consuming transport of molecules or ions across a membrane against a concentration gradient.
E. Bulk transport :  There are two type of it which is :
1. Endocytosis : engulfing of the material by the cell surface membrane to form a small sac or 'endocytic vacuole' it takes to forms ,they are Phagocytosis (cell eating) and Pinocytosis (cell drinking).
2. Exocytosis : is the process by which materials are removed from cells.
